How to frame a print

STEP 1: Choose the Right Frame

Select a frame that complements the size and shape of your print.

STEP 2 : Unpack and Clean the Frame

  • Carefully remove all packaging.
  • Put on gloves to protect your hands and avoid leaving fingerprints on the glass.
  • Clean the glass using two cloths:
~ One for a thorough clean
~ One for a smooth polish
~ Alternatively, you can use newspaper to polish the glass.
  • Hold the glass up to natural daylight to make sure there are no smudges or dust.

STEP 3 : Prepare the Print and Mount

  • Place the white mount (often provided with the frame) face down on a clean surface.
  • Turn it over and lightly mark each corner about 2–3 mm from the opening. This helps you center the print correctly based on its size.
  • Place the print behind the mount using your marks as guides.

STEP 4 : Attach the Print

Once the print is centred:

  • Apply two triangular pieces of framer's tape at opposite corners to hold it in place.
  • Do not tape all four corners yet—this gives you room to adjust if needed.

When satisfied with the alignment:

  • Secure the remaining two corners.
  • Apply strips of framer's tape along each side of the print to prevent any gaps between the mount and the print.

STEP 5 : Assemble the Frame

  • Double-check everything—cleanliness, alignment, and tape positioning.
  • Insert the print and mount into the frame.
  • Secure the backboard.
  • Make sure the hanging hook is in the correct position.
